Dr. Abdelaty Elmannaee Launches the Jordanian Environmental Tourism Map
Within the framework of the Afro-Asian Atlas of Environmental Tourism, health tourism expert Dr. Abdelaty Elmannaee announced the completion and official launch of the Jordanian Environmental Tourism Map, which documents the most prominent natural environmental tourism sites in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and highlights its leading experience in environmental and health-related tourism.
The Jordanian map features a selection of the country’s most renowned environmental tourism destinations, placing Jordan at the forefront regionally and internationally in this field, thanks to its unique geographical diversity and long-standing expertise in managing environmental and wellness tourism.
Jordan’s Environmental Tourism Treasures
At the heart of the map is the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth and one of the world’s most distinctive environmental tourism destinations, renowned for its exceptional salinity and mineral-rich mud, widely used in wellness, rehabilitation, and health-oriented tourism.
The map also highlights the Ma’in Hot Springs, famous for their cascading hot mineral waters flowing from the mountains and rich in sulfur and therapeutic minerals, making them a major destination for environmental and wellness tourism. Equally significant are the Afra Hot Springs in Tafilah Governorate, considered among the oldest and most important mineral spring tourism sites in the region.
Also featured are the Zara thermal springs near the Dead Sea, along with the Aqaba coast on the Red Sea, which represents an ideal environment for marine, climatic, and eco-tourism, particularly due to its clean air, dry climate, and rich marine biodiversity.
In addition, the map includes several other areas rich in mineral groundwater, therapeutic mud, and hot sands, forming key pillars for sustainable environmental tourism and nature-based wellness experiences.
A Pioneering Jordanian Experience
Dr. Elmannaee emphasized that Jordan’s experience in environmental and health-related tourism represents a pioneering model in the region, having successfully integrated natural environments, modern infrastructure, and high-quality tourism services, alongside rich cultural heritage and unique archaeological sites. This integrated approach has positioned Jordan as a preferred destination for environmentally conscious travelers and wellness-oriented tourists from around the world.
The Expanding Afro-Asian Atlas
Dr. Elmannaee explained that the Jordanian Environmental Tourism Map is part of a broader series of maps he has completed in recent years for Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Morocco, Iran, Libya, and South Sudan, within his vision to establish a comprehensive Afro-Asian Atlas of Environmental Tourism.
He concluded by affirming that work is ongoing to complete environmental tourism maps for additional countries, with the aim of creating a scientific and tourism reference that supports sustainable tourism development, encourages responsible investment, and contributes to economic and environmental growth across the region.
