The Dream The Silent Messenger

The Dream – The Silent Messenger by Dr. Abdelati El-Mannaei:The Dream – The Silent MessengerBetween Dream and Wakefulness: A Journey into the Depths of Consciousness
By Dr. Abdelati El-MannaeiWe often wake from sleep either filled with joy because of a pleasant dream, or distressed because of another that left us anxious and even gasping for breath—as if we had fought a battle in our sleep. Some dreams soothe us others leave us shaken, haunted by their strange realism.A dream is no fleeting event in the night of man, but another face of the mind when it frees itself from the noise of consciousness. When we sleep, the mind does not shut down as we might think—it changes its language. It abandons speech and logic, and begins to speak through images and symbols, painting in silence what words are too weak to express. The dream, as much as it is an escape from reality, is also an attempt to understand it from another perspective—one unreachable by the waking mind.Sigmund Freud viewed dreams as a stage on which repressed desires appear disguised in the garments of fantasy, while Carl Jung saw them as honest expressions of the soul striving for inner balance—where each image of the dream becomes a silent messenger carrying the voice of the unconscious toward the shores of awareness. More recent neuroscience understands dreams as processes by which the brain reorganizes memory and emotions, blending the old with the new to maintain the harmony and resilience of the self before the outer world. What is astonishing is that not all dreams merely echo what we have lived some reveal what we have not yet experienced. Scientists suggest that there are levels of awareness extending even into deep sleep, where a faint sense of existence remains without images or thoughts—a state some philosophers name lucid sleep without dreams, the moment when the world vanishes and the self remains in its purest essence. In this sense, dreaming is not a coincidence but a necessity. The mind contemplates itself, and the soul reorders its inner chaos. Through each obscure image or exhausting nightmare, we balance light and shadow, desire and fear, the visible and the hidden within us.And when we awaken, we think we have left the dream behind, yet in truth, it never leaves us. It continues to dwell in our emotions, behaviors, and secret choices—like the shadow of a consciousness that never sleeps.
Perhaps we do not dream in vain perhaps in our sleep we seek to comprehend what cannot be said, to listen to what the tongue fails to express.Within every dream lies a hidden message: that the mind never ceases to search, even in its stillness, and that consciousness is too vast to be confined within the boundaries of wakefulness.
As the artist Mohamed Mounir beautifully sang, If we ever stop dreaming, we die.
