In a humanitarian initiative reflecting a spirit of giving and health awareness, Rock City Medical Center organized a free medical event today for the early detection of breast tumors. The event witnessed distinguished participation by a number of prominent medical figures and strong engagement from women and residents of the Rock City neighborhood.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Tabitha Boutros, former Minister of Health of Sudan, who delivered a rich awareness lecture addressing the importance of early detection of breast tumors, methods of prevention, and regular screening. She emphasized that awareness is the cornerstone in confronting this disease.
Dr. Sarah Boutros Shokai, a professor at the British University of Sicous, also presented a medical overview highlighting the necessity of regular breast self-examination and how to recognize changes that may signal a health concern, underscoring the pivotal role of women in safeguarding their physical and psychological well-being.
Dr. George Edward, Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology, spoke about the natural changes that accompany the different stages of a woman’s life. Meanwhile, Matron Viola Taban provided practical training for attendees on how to perform monthly breast self-examinations, generating significant interaction that greatly enriched the session.
For his part, Dr. Abdelaty El-Menaei, Consultant in Andrology and Infertility, stressed the importance of health education in enhancing public awareness of diseases that are treatable when detected early, affirming that spreading medical knowledge within the community is a shared responsibility between institutions and individuals.
The event concluded with remarks by Dr. Alex Bolik, Director of the Center, who highlighted the community role undertaken by Rock City Medical Center in serving the people of South Sudan through awareness campaigns and free screening initiatives. He explained that the ultimate goal is to build a healthy, informed society capable of prevention before treatment.
Following the awareness sessions, free medical examinations were conducted in the specialties of obstetrics and gynecology, urology, and general check-ups. These included laboratory tests and ultrasound imaging, amid wide appreciation from attendees, whose number exceeded 200 women.
At the close of the day, participants expressed their gratitude to the center’s management, the speakers, and the medical teams, as well as to the participating students from South Sudanese medical colleges, calling for the repetition of such humanitarian initiatives that contribute to improving community health and strengthening the culture of prevention and early detection.
