Awareness Campaign and Free Screening Day for Early Detection of Prostate Cancer at Al-Maouna Hospital, Juba
Al-Maouna Hospital in Juba, in cooperation with Travicare Medical Tourism, is organizing a free awareness and screening day for early detection of prostate cancer on January 10, as part of ongoing efforts to raise health awareness among the citizens of South Sudan and to emphasize the importance of regular checkups for preventing this disease, which is one of the most common cancers among men.
The free awareness day will include an educational lecture on prostate tumors, their symptoms, and methods of early detection. A large turnout is expected, particularly among men in the age groups most at risk. The event will also offer free medical examinations, along with discounts on laboratory tests and imaging, conducted by Consultant Urologist Dr. Abdelaty Elmannaee Chairman of Travicare.
The initiative aims to encourage men not to ignore early symptoms that may indicate prostate problems, which are often overlooked due to fear or embarrassment. Dr. El-Menaei, Consultant Urologist at Al-Maouna Hospital, emphasized that early detection plays a crucial role in increasing recovery rates and reducing complications, especially in cases of benign prostate tumors. He added:
“Prostate cancer is a common disease, and when detected early, it can be effectively controlled in its initial stages. Therefore, we advise all men over the age of 50, or those with a family history of the disease, to undergo regular screenings.”
For his part, Mr. Komosur Suleiman, Chairman of Al-Maouna Hospital, expressed his pleasure in launching this initiative, noting that such programs contribute significantly to enhancing health awareness and encouraging the community to care for their health. He added:
“Our goal through these campaigns is to break the barrier of fear and reach the largest possible number of men to raise awareness about the importance of early screening.”
He also affirmed that Al-Maouna Hospital is a home for everyone, carrying a strong humanitarian mission in treating patients, and promised to repeat similar initiatives in other medical specialties in the future.
It is worth noting that prostate cancer affects one in eight men during their lifetime, and statistics indicate that early detection can increase cure rates to more than 90%. This event comes as part of a series of awareness activities organized by Travecare Medical Tourism in cooperation with local health institutions, following numerous health initiatives previously implemented in Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Chad, and South Sudan.
