Sudan Al-Nahda University has announced the establishment of the Faculty of Health Tourism, making it the world's first academic faculty dedicated exclusively to the study of this emerging discipline. The official inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place soon, bringing together distinguished academic, medical, and tourism leaders, as well as regional and international experts in the fields of healthcare and tourism.
This pioneering initiative responds to the growing global demand for specialized academic programs that integrate healthcare, medical destination management, and natural and traditional therapeutic practices. The faculty aims to prepare highly qualified professionals in accordance with international standards while emphasizing quality, scientific research, and international academic collaboration.
Dr. Iman Al-Bashir, President of Sudan Al-Nahda University, stated that the establishment of the Faculty reflects a strategic vision to advance higher education by integrating the concepts of health and tourism into a comprehensive academic framework that aligns with global developments. She announced that the Faculty will commence its academic programs in the 2026–2027 academic year, offering both on-campus and online study options, thereby providing greater accessibility for students within Sudan and abroad, as well as for working professionals seeking to enhance their qualifications.
Dr. Al-Bashir added that the curriculum has been carefully designed to combine academic knowledge with practical experience through field training and educational visits to specialized therapeutic centers. It will also cover public health policies, traditional and complementary medicine, entrepreneurship, innovation, and foster partnerships with national and international healthcare and research institutions.
For his part, Dr. Abdelaty Elmannaee Founder of the Faculty and its Honorary Dean, explained that the Faculty's concept is based on integrating modern medical technologies with traditional healing expertise while utilizing communities' natural therapeutic resources. He emphasized that the objective is to establish a solid academic foundation for health tourism based on scientific research and internationally recognized standards.
Dr. Elmannaee further noted that the Faculty will offer accredited academic programs, including Bachelor's degrees, professional diplomas, and specialized certificate courses, with future plans to introduce Master's and PhD programs. In addition, the Faculty will provide field training opportunities and establish a dedicated research infrastructure to support safe and sustainable practices within the health tourism sector.
The Faculty's academic plan includes comprehensive and flexible programs covering Health Tourism Management, Medical Destination Planning, Hydrotherapy and Natural Therapeutic Resources, Health and Tourism Policies, Accessible Health Tourism, and Marketing and Governance in Health Tourism. It will also deliver intensive professional training programs for healthcare practitioners and therapeutic hospitality providers. Furthermore, the Faculty will establish research partnerships and student exchange programs with leading international universities and institutions to continuously enhance curricula and promote excellence in education and research
The Faculty is expected to contribute significantly to economic growth by creating new employment opportunities across the healthcare, tourism, and wellness sectors, while strengthening Sudan's position as a regional center for specialized education and scientific research in the field of health tourism
The University is expected to announce the official inauguration date and event program in the coming weeks. Registration for the 2026–2027 academic year will also open soon, alongside opportunities for participants to attend the scientific and professional events accompanying the official launch of the Faculty
